Boot Camp Assistant makes it possible to install and run Windows operating system on Mac computers without using any virtualization software.

I've been able to load Windows 8.1 on my old MacBook 7,1 (mid 2010 I think) by cheating and playing with the Boot Camp Assistants info.plist. This actually worked to my surprise but it appears that at least some of the boot camp files haven't been installed (keyboard and internet works) and in particular the trackpad drivers are missing even though it works with the defaults. Boot Camp, the software included with OS X Lion and Mountain Lion so customers can run compatible versions of Microsoft Windows on an Intel-based Mac, now supports Windows 8 (64-bit).

One needs to install required Boot Camp support software or drivers to make sure that keyboard, touchpad, displays and other components of Mac computer work great with Windows operating system.

If you are experiencing display, keyboard, mouse, audio, built-in camera or microphone issues while running Windows 10 on your Mac, you can repair the Boot Camp drivers to fix issues. You can repair the Boot Camp if the Boot Camp Control Panel is not working properly as well.

In addition to repairing the Boot Camp, this method can also be used to update Boot Camp drivers to the latest version.

Repair and update Boot Camp drivers in Windows 10

Complete the given below directions to repair the Boot Camp in Windows 10.

Step 1: The first step is to download the Boot Camp software from Apple. If you have access to the macOS on your Mac machine, refer to our how to download Boot Camp drivers for Windows 10 guide for step-by-step directions.

Alternatively, if you don’t have access to the macOS or removed macOS from your Mac computer, follow the instructions in our how to download Boot Camp drivers on Windows 10 without the Boot Camp Assistant guide to download Boot Camp support software.

Step 2: After downloading the Boot Camp drivers, open up the BootCamp folder and then run the Setup.exe located in that folder.

NOTE: If you have downloaded Boot Camp drivers to a USB drive, then the path to the setup file would be:

F:BootCampSetup.exe

Where “F” is the drive letter of the USB drive.

Step 3: Click the Repair button to install missing files and repair damaged Boot Camp drivers and data. Note that old drivers will be updated to the newest version during the process.

Step 4: Once done, click the Finish button. Reboot your computer when you are asked to do so. Restart and boot into Windows 10 again to check if Boot Camp and its drivers are working good now.

Drivers For Windows 10

Active4 years, 1 month ago

I have a Mid 2011 27' Imac with Windows 8. It works mostly fine with the latest bootcamp drivers, I don't have sound in the integrated sound card since I upgraded from Windows 7, but I use bluetooth headphones anyway. But Windows show two driver updates in Windows Update: an update to the Intel integrated graphics and an update to the SATA AHCI. One of these drivers crashes the system upon install and each reboot thereafter (I identified which once, but forgot).

My problem is that the Windows 8.1 update comes with these drivers and crashes during install on the 'Setting up your devices' step. So I'm currently unable to update. Is there any way to block these drivers from being installed with windows 8.1? or a way to replace these with the bootcamp version in the window of time between their installation and their activation?

Edit: Just in case anyone wonders, disabling the device in the device manager won't change the outcome.

Update (28/02/2014): The new version of the bootcamp drivers which officially support windows 8.1 still give me this problem, both updating and installing from scratch.

You can't disable the automatically installation of drivers for a specific device. But you can choose, that you can choose, what to do, at the device-manager.

Follow this tutorial from wiki-how:

  1. Search for 'Change device' in the Windows 8 Start menu.
  2. Click on where it says Change device installation settings.
  3. Select the No, let me choose what to do option.
  4. Check the automatically get the device app option, then click Save changes to save the settings you just chose.

Important Now check the Never install drivers from windows update option.

If you can't access the search (like in safe mode), you can open the 'Device Installation Settings' Window with the following command:

In earlier versions of Windows, it was possible to stop Windows from installing a particular driver. You could hide an individual update. That feature seems to have been removed in Windows 8.1
