I've ended up asking Huawei for the right driver. It is working now. In my humble opinion this is something O2 should keep always updated to enhance end user experience.

In any case, I still couldn't get the adapter up and running even with the latest Connection Manager software, so after a bit of investigation I found way of getting it to work, particularly if you are having issues trying to get Win7 to detect the modem portion of the dongle.
