I am trying to use PuTTY to communicate over my computer's serial line. I have configured the correct serial line, baud rate, number of data bits, stop bits, parity, and flow control, and establish. The simplest way would be to use a program such as puTTY in place of the Arduino Serial Monitor. PuTTY can save data into a file. You could also write a program on your PC to receive the data and save it into a file.
Does anyone know if there is a way to get PuTTY to show the hex values of what it's receiving over a serial connection instead of characters?
Setting up a Serial Terminal with Windows. Apply a right mouse-click on the putty.exe file and select Run as administrator. Configure the PuTTY menu as follows: Under Connection type, select Serial. You can try using the raw protocol on the session screen in the configuration. It will show whatever is being transmitted directly from where you're connecting. If the device/system you're connecting to isn't transmitting HEX codes though, you may need a specialized terminal program to translate the output to hex codes.
